Using crossbow in full aromour

This is picture from Spiezer Schilling (1480. year) chronicle by Diebold Schilling the Elder, describing history of Old Swiss Confederacy to Burgundiand Wars.

We can see here man on horse in full gothic armour (used in late 15th century in mostly western Europe).

Crossbow on the horse

Crossbow was also use on horse back.

This is interesting it showes crossbow using on from the back. All pictures are from Hans Talhoffer manuscript, 1463. y..

Certainly best book about Tradition crosbows and history of traditional crossbows is Book of crossbow by Sir Ralph Pyne-Gallwey.





Gaston Phebus, Book of hunting



Book of hunting (french Livre de chasse) is writen in 1387-89 by Frencsh count of Foix Gaston Phebus (1331 – 1391) and dedicated for Phillip the Good, duke of Burgundy.

Gaston was very passionate hunter and he hunted for whole of his life. 

Livre de chasse is instruction book of medieval hunting. In fourth part crossbow hunting is described.

 As we can see they use belt and hook crosbow. Quiver is interesting.
